Here is an extraordinary building full of extraordinary equipment. The Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility is the first building in Australia’s newest city, Bradfield. Makes quite a statement about what’s important.

I recently attended the Hassell and Industrial Design Xchange (IDX-SYD) industry afternoon at the Advanced Manufacturing Readiness Facility (AMRF) in Bradfield, Australia’s newest city. It was a great experience and I left feeling energised and full of ideas.
The event brought together designers, makers, and industry people for a closer look at the advanced manufacturing tools and processes available at the AMRF. It was helpful to see these capabilities up close. The facility supports everything from early prototyping to full production, and it offers local designers real opportunities to experiment with new methods to realise big ideas.
The location added to the experience. The AMRF sits inside Bradfield’s award-winning First Building, designed by Hassell with Djinjama. The space reflects the spirit of innovation that the event focused on.
Throughout the afternoon, I took part in tours, watched demonstrations, and listened to talks about current developments in manufacturing and what they mean for the Australian design industry. What stood out to me was how much emphasis there is on collaboration and shared learning. Designers can access both the equipment and the independent advice they need to move projects forward.
I left feeling inspired and more aware of the tools and possibilities available to us. Events like this remind me how quickly our industry is evolving and how important it is to stay connected to these developments.
